How often to groom a cat or dog in Kuwait's warm climate, which services to book, and when a haircut helps.
How often your pet needs grooming depends on the coat, the size of your pet and how much time they spend outdoors. In Kuwait's long, hot summers, regular grooming also helps keep your pet clean and comfortable. Here is a simple guide. Your groomer or vet can advise on your own pet.
A simple rule of thumb
- Short-haired cats and dogs: a full bath and groom every 1 to 2 months is a common routine, with regular brushing at home.
- Long-haired or thick-coated pets: more often, because their coats tangle and trap dirt and heat. Regular brushing at home between visits matters most.
- Active dogs who play outside: they may need a bath sooner, especially after dusty or sandy walks.
Between full grooming visits
You do not always need a full groom. Smaller services keep your pet fresh in between:
- Nail cutting when nails get long (2 KD at Petsofy)
- Ear cleaning (2 KD)
- Tooth brushing (2 KD)
- Hair cutting only (6 to 7 KD)
Basic or full grooming?
Basic grooming is a bath with shampoo, blow drying, nail trimming, ear cleaning and tooth brushing. Full grooming adds a haircut. Choose full grooming when the coat needs cutting or tidying, and basic grooming when it only needs cleaning.
Signs it is time to book
- A doggy or musty smell
- Tangles or mats in the coat
- Long nails that click on the floor
- Dirty ears
If your pet has skin problems, itching or ear infections, see a vet before grooming.
